We all want women to be safe, of course, but leading medical groups say that these laws do not make women safer. They actually put women at risk by forcing women\u2019s health centers to shut down. And that is, in fact, the real goal of these laws: shutting down clinics and preventing a woman from getting an abortion if she needs one. Though the proponents of these types of laws often push for them under the guise of women\u2019s health, it\u2019s clear that these laws don\u2019t make women safer. Abortion is already extremely safe\u201499 percent safe, according to the Centers for Disease Control.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, medical experts and groups like the American Medical Association and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists flatly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acog.org\/About-ACOG\/News-Room\/News-Releases\/2013\/ACOG-and-AMA-File-Amicus-Brief\">oppose<\/a> these types of laws. That is because far from making women safer, they have put women in danger by shutting down clinics and making it more difficult for women to access safe and legal abortion care.\r\n\r\nWe have to ask ourselves, if doctors are against these laws, why are politicians still passing them? Because they want to ban abortion.\r\n\r\nThese types of laws have decimated abortion access in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/reproductive-freedom\/planned-parenthood-v-abbott\">Texas<\/a> and threaten to close clinics in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/reproductive-freedom\/planned-parenthood-southeast-inc-v-strange\">Alabama<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/reproductive-freedom\/planned-parenthood-indiana-and-kentucky-inc-v-commissioner-indiana-state\">Indiana<\/a>, Louisiana, Mississippi, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/reproductive-freedom\/preterm-cleveland-inc-v-kasich\">Ohio<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/reproductive-freedom\/planned-parenthood-wisconsin-v-van-hollen\">Wisconsin<\/a>, and more.\r\nAdditional Resources\r\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aclu.org\/files\/assets\/TRAP_FAQ_FactSheet.pdf\">TRAP FAQ and Fact Sheet<\/a><\/strong>\r\n\r\nWhat is a TRAP regulation?
